MSDC Board Closes a Busy Year with Major Policy Decisions

Dec 6, 2022, 17:00 PM by MSDC Staff
The Board discussed endorsements, nutrition, advocacy priorities, and more.

On December 5, the MSDC Board held its last scheduled meeting of 2022. On the agenda were a number of timely topics for the practice of medicine in DC.

Before the meeting, the Board engaged in a mindfulness exercise led by Chris Parkison of Vida Fitness (MSDC's wellness partner). The Board experienced one offering of Vida Fitness, specifically yoga breathing and awareness in their seats. Later in the meeting, Vida joined in to discuss the Evolve program and how physicians can work with interested patients to involve them.

The meeting's guest speaker was Corey Feist, President and co-Founder of the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes Foundation. Mr. Feist discussed the foundation's work in medical wellness and initiatives like the push to reform licensing questions on physician burnout support. MSDC published a recent article on its own site from the foundation on its major initiatives to make the country the best place for medical wellness.

At the business portion of its meeting, the Board took the following actions:

  • Approved a new policy on endorsing people being appointed (or picked) for positions, not elected
  • Endorsed the Advocacy Committee's 25th Council of DC advocacy priorities (more on this in a future post).
  • Modified the criteria for physicians to join MSDC as Associate and first-time members
  • Endorsed the AMA policy on nutrition (D 440.978)
  • And more

MSDC's next scheduled Board meeting is February 27, 2023.
