AMA Report Shows 37 Percent Decline in Opioid Prescribing But an Evolving and Deadlier Overdose Epidemic

The AMA issued its 2020 Opioid Task Force report showing a 17.9% decrease in opioid prescribing in DC. It also notes: • the epidemic has grown more deadly • reductions in opioid supply and increases in PDMP use have not ended the epidemic • specific—and proven—policy recommendations to confront the evolving epidemic must be heeded.
