Physical, mental, spiritual and emotional wellbeing are crucial to good personal and practice habits, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The DC ACP Chapter Integrative Medicine and Wellbeing Committee is proud to present the Mind-Body Lecture Series beginning October 29, 2020 from 7-8pm. A lecture will be offered every other month as a virtual interactive webinar.

Mind-Body Lecture Series

The cost of each lecture is $25.00, payable in advance to DC-ACP. Please note some of the webinars have limited registration due to their interactive nature. Enrollment is on a first come first served basis.

CME objectives

  • Session 1 
    Understand the definitions of psychological stress and resilience.
    Understand the roles within the brain that the default network and the focus network play in governing our attention.
    Understand how exercises to engage the focus network and retrain attention to the present moment can enhance resilience.
  • Session 2 
    Learn about strategies to actively deal with ruminative thinking and anxiety.
    Understand how developing an active practice of gratitude, compassion, acceptance, and forgiveness can strengthen the focus network and enhance resilience.

Learn about Varun Sharma, MD MSc
Varun Sharma is an Associate Professor of General Internal Medicine at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital. He has completed a fellowship in General Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic where his focus was in mind-body medicine. He is Wellness Champion for the Division of Internal Medicine at Georgetown and developed and runs a mind-body wellness program for Internal Medicine residents at Georgetown. He incorporates mind-body medicine as well as traditional Chinese medicine into his primary care practice. He has also developed and implemented educational programs in both areas as part of patient care.
