Early Career Physician Leader Avery Ford Inspires As He Leads

Jan 5, 2024, 09:54 AM by MSDC Staff
Meet Early Career Physicians Section Medical Student Co-chair Avery Ford, a fourth-year medical student.

Avery Ford easily and readily stepped into leadership at the Medical Society of the District of Columbia (MSDC), which represents the 10,000+ licensed physicians of our nation’s capital. He is the Medical Student Co-chair of the MSDC Early Career Physicians Section (ECPS), where he spearheaded popular and important professional development programs for medical students. As a section leader, he expanded leadership and advocacy opportunities among early career physicians and boosted membership and engagement in MSDC.

In a city with significant health inequities, he has provided life-saving public health outreach and much-needed representation to Washington, DC’s underserved communities. He is active in the Georgetown Health Justice Alliance, an interdisciplinary partnership between Georgetown’s legal and medical schools. Despite his rigorous academic studies, he makes time to share his knowledge and champion others. As a result, he was elected president of his medical school class three times.

His “lift while you climb” mindset is contagious and has benefited the city and those around him. He founded the Georgetown chapter of Black Men in White Coats, which aims to improve health outcomes among Black men with more representative providers. He has published and delivered oral presentations regionally and internationally on a wide range of topics.
