Member Spotlight: Meet MSDC member Philip Candilis, MD, Director of Medical Affairs at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital.

Philip Candilis, MD, is Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He serves on the committee that oversees MSDC's Physician Health Program, a non-disciplinary program that advocates for physician health and wellbeing on behalf of impaired physicians. 

As Director of Medical Affairs at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Ward 8, Dr. Candilis also leads the hospital’s forensic psychiatry fellowship, an advanced training program for physicians working at the intersection of law and medicine. He is President of the Washington Psychiatric Society and President of the Hellenic American Psychiatric Association. 

A son of Greek immigrants, he maintains an international perspective to his work.  He works with GW's Global Mental Health Program to address resilience and trauma-informed care on a global scale. His work touches humanitarian aid-workers, refugees, NGOs and government agencies. Dr. Candilis is widely published, especially on the issues of resilience, physician health and medical ethics.
