The 2022 Capital Healthcare Honors is a deserving celebration for the District's healthcare heroes. This live networking event will honor the winners of the MSDC annual awards and give special recognition of other healthcare heroes who have helped make the District the best place to practice medicine. Join us and the entire healthcare community for this special dinner and networking event.

The CHH will take place at the National Press Club, located in downtown DC. Since 1908, the National Press Club has hosted presidents, kings, queens, prime ministers, Cabinet members, governors, members of Congress, and influential leaders to share their views on significant topics and current events with the media and public.

Meet the 2022 Capital Healthcare Honorees

Sara Imershein, MD, FACOG (Certificate of Meritorious Service)

Dr. Imershein, a locally and nationally renowned women’s health advocate, is being recognized for her service to the profession.  She has a legacy of reproductive health, maternal health, and women’s health advocacy through her vigorous work to drive better health policy. In addition to connecting MSDC, the DC Chapter of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and aligned organizations, she is a professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the George Washington University.

Princy Kumar, MD (Dr. Charles H. Epps III Community Service Award)

Dr. Kumar, Chief of the Division for Infectious Diseases and Travel Medicine at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, is being recognized for her public service to the community.  During the pandemic, she set an industry standard for COVID response policy and planning with MedStar Health as well as mentorship to medical students and residents at Georgetown University.

 J. Desiree Pineda, MD, FACP (Distinguished Service Award)

Dr. Pineda is being recognized for her service to the Medical Society. When she was installed as President in 2019, she made a promise to address the scourge of moral injury and physician wellbeing. She has kept that promise by creating and helping to secure initial funding for an MSDC wellbeing program, expanding the program with a new app, and helping launch a new foundation—all during a global pandemic.

Mary's Center (John Benjamin Nichols Award)

Mary’s Center, an innovative community health center with a 30-year history of helping the underserved patient population, is being recognized for its contributions to improving the health of the District of Columbia, especially during the pandemic. Mary’s Center received one of the first vaccine shipments in the region and immediately got shots in arms, administering over 20,000 vaccines by July 2021 to over 11,000 people, most of whom belong to racial/ethnic minority groups. Because of this success, Mary’s Center has been tapped by the White House in its American Rescue Plan.

Health and safety protocols will be shared in advance including COVID vaccination requirements and any testing requirements. The health and safety of our attendees is our top priority.
