MSDC Asks Members to Vote on Proposed Bylaws Change July 31, 2026

At a July 21 special meeting of the Board of Directors, your Board approved putting forward to the membership a bylaws change. This change involves eligibility to serve as president-elect. Currently, any MSDC Active Member in good standing who has been a member for at least five consecutive years can be nominated as President-Elect. The MSDC Board feels this restricts members from serving as president-elect and president who are new to the area but have extensive experience in other state medical societies, the American Medical Association, or a specialty society.

Current text:
President-elect. The President-elect shall be elected by the membership and shall have been an Active member of the Society for at least five consecutive years immediately prior to his election. The President-elect shall serve a term of one year, after which he shall automatically become President. The President-elect shall not be eligible for re-election.

Proposed change:
President-elect. The President-elect shall be elected by the membership and shall be an Active member of the Society. The President-elect shall serve a term of one year, after which he shall automatically become President. The President-elect shall not be eligible for re-election.

MSDC bylaws

All Active Members of the Society are eligible to vote. The vote will be from August 6-20, 2026 and members can register one vote per person here. A 2/3rds vote to approve will make the change active on August 20.
