1. Why do you belong to MSDC? What made you join, and what keeps you engaged?

Since medical school, I’ve felt like belonging to my professional organizations has been part of my responsibility as a physician. It’s a way to stay up to date on local policies and opportunities, network with colleagues I wouldn’t otherwise meet, and — most importantly for me — have my ow voice heard on issues I face in practice that I wouldn’t be able to address alone.

2. If you could have dinner with any historical figure (medical or otherwise), who would it be and what would you ask them?

Martin Luther King, Jr : are we doing it right? I grew up in a very religious family in the Deep South, and the message of Rev. Dr. King to practice nonviolent advocacy against injustice felt like a direct calling. As a physician, our ethical code asks use to advocate for our patients, too. And I hope leaders like him would be proud of the work we do at MSDC and our other organizations. I’m open to notes!

3. What's one piece of advice you'd give to a physician just starting their practice in the DC area?

Join MSDC and go to events. Join your professional organization. These aren’t just your colleagues. We’re friends. We’re here to support each other when things get frustrating or hard. And celebrate when life is good.
