New "Prescription Wealth" Initiative Launches to Address Critical Financial Wellness Gap Among Physicians
Comprehensive program offers targeted financial planning resources for medical professionals at every career stage
WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 24, 2025 – The Healthy Physician Foundation, in partnership with the Medical Society of DC and leading financial and medical organizations, today announced the launch of Prescription Wealth, a comprehensive financial wellness initiative designed specifically for physicians, medical students, and their families.
The program launched with an inaugural dinner at La Ferme restaurant, supported by Journey Wealth Strategies, where participants engaged in discussions about effective strategies for physicians to meet their unique financial goals.
Prescription Wealth addresses the growing financial challenges facing medical professionals today. Recent data reveals concerning trends in physician financial wellness:
- Physicians are increasingly seeing a larger portion of their compensation from salary versus other types of compensation, while the number of physicians receiving compensation from multiple sources has decreased (AMA Benchmark Survey)
- While overall physician compensation has risen over the past six years, when adjusted for inflation, physician salaries have remained stagnant on average (Doximity)
- Nine in ten young physicians feel somewhat or completely unprepared if a disability prevents them from practicing (AMA)
- 23% of the medical school class of 2024 faced educational debt of $300,000 or more (AAMC)
"Physicians face unique financial challenges throughout their careers, from managing substantial educational debt to planning for retirement and legacy building," said Healthy Physician Foundation Chair Dr. Matthew Lecuyer. "Prescription Wealth provides targeted resources and expert guidance to help medical professionals navigate these complexities at every stage of their life journey."
The initiative offers a multi-faceted approach to financial wellness, including:
Upcoming Educational Programs:
- July 28: Legacy planning program in partnership with Georgetown University
- October 15: Career transition planning program with Curi RMB, focusing on planning for the second phase of medical careers
Ongoing Resources:
- Comprehensive video content, articles, and curated links focused on financial wellbeing for medical professionals
- Online resource portal accessible at healthyphysicians.org/prescriptionwealth
