MSDC To Welcome AMA President-elect at the 2023 Capital Healthcare Honors April 18, 2023

MSDC is pleased to announce that President-elect of the American Medical Association (AMA) Jesse M. Ehrenfeld, MD, MPH will be an honored guest at the 2023 Capital Healthcare Honors, taking place on Friday, May 5, 2023, at the National Press Club.

The Capital Healthcare Honors, presented by the Medical Society of the District of Columbia, is the inspiring springtime physician awards ceremony and dinner in recognition of DC healthcare heroes. In addition to the AMA president-elect, this gala event will bring together numerous healthcare executives, physician leaders, government officials, community stakeholders, and more from across the metropolitan Washington region. Jesse M. Ehrenfeld, MD, MPH, was elected president-elect of the American Medical Association in June 2022. Active in organized medicine since medical school, Dr. Ehrenfeld is a senior associate dean, tenured professor of anesthesiology and director of the “Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment” at the Medical College of Wisconsin. MSDC, which played an instrumental role in founding the American Medical Association, is actively engaged with AMA leadership and the House of Medicine to promote the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health. Among the physicians being honored at the 2023 Capital Healthcare Honors is AMA Delegation Chair Dr. Peter Lavine.

The 2023 Capital Healthcare Honors recognizes four DC physician leaders who have contributed greatly to healthcare and the profession of medicine in the District of Columbia. The distinguished awardees are leaders in women's health, health equity, health care reform, and mentorship. The awardees are being recognized for their service to the profession of medicine, public health, community, and MSDC. The awardees and their awards are as follows:

Peter Lavine, MD ~ Certificate of Meritorious Service for service to the profession of medicine.

Constance Bohon, MD, FACOG ~ Dr. Charles H. Epps, III Community Service Award for outstanding public service to the community.

James Taylor, MD ~ John Benjamin Nichols Award, presented by UnitedHealthcare, for improving the health of the community.

John Larsen, MD, FACOG (posthumous) ~ Distinguished Service Award for outstanding service to the Medical Society of the District of Columbia.

The Capital Healthcare Honors awards ceremony and dinner will be an in-person only event. The event is open to the entire healthcare community, but advance registration is required to attend.
