Join MSDC as we welcome Dr. Marc Siegel to discuss the science behind the COVID vaccines. As a follow-up to our December vaccine webinar with Dr. Shah, AAP-DC, and Immunize DC, this presentation will go into the science background of the COVID vaccines, development, and safety. Join us to have your questions answered and engage in a discussion about the vaccines.

Siegel, MarcOur presenter is Dr. Marc Siegel of George Washington University. Dr. Siegel is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He obtained his medical degree from Georgetown University and completed his Internal Medicine training at Georgetown University Medical Center. He ran his own Internal Medicine practice in York, ME for six years before returning to Washington DC in 2007 to pursue a fellowship in Infectious Diseases. On completion of his fellowship he joined the faculty at the George Washington Medical Faculty Associates in 2009. His initial research focus centered on chronic hepatitis C but, with the advent of effective hepatitis C therapy, his current primary research focus is HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Working in conjunction with the Milken School of Public Health, he has been the Study Medical Lead Investigator or Principal Investigator on seven PrEP trials funded through the HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) network.He is also one of co-investigator at GW for the COVE study looking at the efficacy of the Moderna mRNA vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 virus as well as the Principal Investigator for an investigational monoclonal antibody to interfere with the inflammatory cascade in patients hospitalized with severe COVID-19.
