New Frontiers in Suicidology: Clinical Practice, Research, and Policy Perspectives

Washington Psychiatric Society Presidential Symposium
Saturday, April 14, 2018
9:00am - 12:30pm
St. Elizabeths Hospital

The 2018 Presidential Symposium will feature leading experts on the scientific study of suicidal behavior, the causes of suicide and suicide prevention.
Suicide is an important clinical issue as well as a complex public health matter involving psychological, biological, and societal factors. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), from 1999 through 2014, reports that the suicide rate increased in the United States among both genders and across all ages. Despite the significance of this clinical and public health phenomenon, historically clinicians have had limited reliable tools in terms of both assessment and intervention. This symposium aims to highlight the innovations in the field of suicidology from clinical practice, research, and policy perspectives.
