MSDC Presents Testimony at HPV HearingAt a February 9 hearing on the HPV Vaccination and Reporting Act of 2007, which was held by the DC Council Committee on Health, MSDC was among the stakeholders to present testimony in support of the bill. The bill would establish a human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and reporting program for all females under the age of 13. MSDC Executive Vice President K. Edward Shanbacker presented the Medical Society’s testimony as part of a panel discussion. The panel also included Dr. Donald Henson of George Washington University’s Cancer Control and Prevention Program, Dr. Joseph Wright of Children’s National Medical Center, and a cervical cancer survivor. In attendance from the Council were David Catania, Tommy Wells, Harry Thomas, Jr. and Mary Cheh. HPV has received tremendous national attention; legislation has also been introduced in Maryland and Virginia.
