EMTALA TAG Issues Recommendation on Interpretive Guidelines

The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act’s Technical Advisory Group (EMTALA TAG), which was created as part of the Medicare Modernization Act, is recommending that the interpretive guidelines be amended to clarify that once a patient has been stabilized, the hospital and physician have no further follow-up care obligation under EMTALA. The TAG advises the CMS Secretary on issues related to EMTALA regulations and their implementation.
