HIV Testing Campaign Falls Short of Goal
Fewer than 20,000 people were tested for HIV since the Administration for HIV Policy and Programs (AHPP) launched a District-wide HIV testing campaign in June 2006. AHPP expected the count to grow by the end of last year, but the total will fall short of the District's goal of testing 400,000 men, women, and adolescents ages 14-84.
The DC Appleseed Center for Law and Justice released a report supporting the program's laudable goals of having residents know their HIV status through routine testing, but outlined problems in execution that must be corrected if the effort is to have lasting impact on the local HIV/AIDS crisis.
