Do You Still Need Vaccine for High-Risk Adult Patients? The District of Columbia Department of Health (DOH) will make available influenza vaccine for providers who may not have vaccine for their high risk patients. The influenza vaccine will be available for adult patients who are at high-risk of serious illness or death from influenza, or those who could transmit the illness to someone at high-risk. This season the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are encouraging anyone who wants to be protected against influenza to seek vaccination. While getting vaccinated in October and November is best, vaccination should continue to be encouraged in December and January. Most years, influenza doesn’t peak until February or later and many people recommended to get the vaccine have not done so by the end of November. Influenza vaccine should continue to be offered throughout the influenza season even after influenza activity has been documented in a community. Please contact Jacquelyn Campbell, RN, MSN, CPNP, at the District of Columbia Immunization Program, phone 202-576-9324, if you need flu vaccine. |
