Newly Installed DC Council Introduces Healthcare-Related Legislation

On January 9, at a legislative session of the DC Council, four bills were introduced that address issues of importance to MSDC members, including:

• A bill to encourage the administration of the human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV) to all girls ages 9-13;
• A reintroduced bill to separate EMS from the Fire Department and create a separate agency;
• A reintroduced bill to set minimum staffing requirements in hospitals; and
• A bill that would require mandatory HIV testing of inmates at the DC Jail.

As more information becomes available on these legislative initiatives, MSDC will share it with its membership.
