Family Violence Task Force Seeks Your InvolvementUnder the impassioned leadership of its chair, Kim Bullock, MD, the Medical Society’s Family Violence Task Force continues to work hard to reduce the prevalence of family violence. Dr. Bullock encourages MSDC members – and potential members – with expertise and/or interest in the area of family violence to join in task force activities. The multi-disciplinary group meets every other month to discuss recent local and national events that impact health issues relevant to family violence. The group identifies legislative initiatives both locally and nationally that the task force should support. The group also identifies grants that would be appropriate for MSDC members and offers guidance on how to apply for the monies. MSDC gains valuable exposure as a result of task force activities. “Our members present at countless forums and meetings each year,” Dr. Bullock said, “providing an excellent opportunity for local leaders and potential members to hear about what MSDC is doing to address this problem.” When asked why involvement by local physicians is critical, Dr. Bullock said, “Family violence is epidemic and of critical health significance to every physician, regardless of specialty or practice location. This is an area of social justice where you can take an active stand and make a difference.” If you are interested in participating in Family Violence Task Force activities, please contact Dr. Bullock, kimabullock@hotmail.com. |
