Five Awards Presented at 2005 MSDC Annual Meeting
Mayor Anthony Williams Honored with Specially Created Award Washington, DC, November 10, 2005—This evening, the Medical Society of the District of Columbia (MSDC) presented five awards to individuals who have demonstrated steadfast advocacy and outstanding service to the Washington, DC medical and patient community. Included in the presentation was a newly created award honoring DC Mayor Anthony A. Williams for his steadfast advocacy on behalf of physicians and patients in the District of Columbia. Also presented today were: The Distinguished Service Award, to Peter E. Lavine, MD; The Certificate of Meritorious Service, to Thomas J. Calhoun, MD; The Dr. Charles Epps, III Community Service Award to Robert Henry Williams, MD, and The John Benjamin Nichols Award, to Larry L. Smith, JD. The awards were given out as part of the Medical Society's Annual Meeting, which was held at The Washington, DC Ritz-Carlton. The following is a more detailed listing of the awards: 2005 Special Leadership Award: Mayor Anthony A. Williams Presented to the mayor for steadfast advocacy on behalf of physicians and patients of the District of Columbia. 2005 Distinguished Service Award: Peter E. Lavine, MD Presented to a physician member for outstanding service to the Medical Society of DC.
2005 Certificate of Meritorious Service: Thomas J. Calhoun, MD Presented to a physician member in recognition of distinguished service to the medical profession. 2005 Dr. Charles Epps, III Community Service Award: Robert Henry Williams, MD Presented to a physician member for outstanding public service to the community. 2005 John Benjamin Nichols Award: Larry L. Smith, JD Presented to a lay person, organization, or both, in recognition of outstanding contributions toward improving the health of the community.
