2006 General Elections - Call for Nominations

With the adoption of Society Bylaws by the membership at the 2004 Annual Meeting, a more inclusive process was established for electing your Society leadership and establishing a governance structure that will support the future growth and continued health of the Society.  An important part of that process was the establishment of the Leadership Development/Nominating Committee.  Along with developing a ballot for annual membership elections this committee is charged with developing and implementing programs to identify, recruit, train and nurture physicians for positions of leadership within the Society.  Committee members include:

Damian P. Alagia, MD

Craig Thomas, MD

Kim Bullock, MD

Brian C. Turrisi, MD

Sara L. Imershein, MD

Christopher Spevak, MD

Charise Petrovich, MD

K. Edward Shanbacker

Edgar Potter, MD

The Leadership Development/Nominating Committee will meet in September 2006 to develop a slate of candidates for Society offices.  The election by mail ballot will occur in the fall.  Offices on the ballot will be as follows:

President-Elect (1) (1year term)

Director, At Large (3) (2-year terms)

AMA Delegate (1)(2-year terms)

AMA Alternate (2) (2 year terms)

MSDC heartily encourages you to consider having your name brought before the Leadership Development/Nominating Committee.  This is an important opportunity to have a positive impact on the future of medicine within the District of Columbia as well as to serve your profession. Many of your peers have found this experience to be valuable and personally rewarding.   I urge you to consider service in the only all-inclusive, broad-based Society representing District of Columbia physicians and their patients.

All you need to do to be considered by the Leadership Development/Nominating Committee or to recommend a colleague is to contact any member of the committee by August 18, 2006.  We’ll ask you for a C.V. and that’s it!

If you have any questions or need additional information, I hope you will contact Damian P. Alagia, MD, President (703-748-9880, or dpalagiamd@aol.com), MSDC Executive Vice-President K. Edward Shanbacker (202-466-1800, ext. 101, or shanbacker@msdc.org) or Debra Evans, Staff Liaison (202-466-1800 ext. 116, or evans@msdc.org).
