MSDC Task Force Member is off on a Special Mission
The MSDC Task Force on Family Violence is proud to announce that one of its very active student members, Katrina Harper is studying in Tanzania this summer on a special externship program. Ms. Harper is a second year Georgetown medical student who will be working with indigenous healers leaning about the integration of complementary medicine into the African health care system. She is also looking at specific medicinals as it relates to future legitimate therapies in the field of HIV/AIDS. In addition to this clinical work, Ms. Harper is working with key professionals to better understand the issues surrounding women's health, cultural aspects of women and young girls within Tanzanian society, as well as the darker side of violence against women and young girls in this country. MSDC will be looking forward to receiving a full report of Ms. Harper’s work at the end of August.
